Week Three - Reminders

Readers.
Today your child went home with a photocopied reader in their reading bag (or in their school bag if they don't have a reading bag yet).
This book is a CVC decodable book.  Your child will need to 'unzip' and then 'zip up' the words. Please remember to praise all their efforts as they begin this early reading.
If they are not recognising any letters then get those good old cards out and do some extra revision at home.
Real readers are coming soon....
Sight Words
Please keep your child's zip lock bag with Sight Words in it inside their reading folder.  We need to be able to access it quickly to test and add new words. Testing will happen fortnightly on average.  Don't forget to keep reviewing the old words when you get new ones.
Reading Folders.
Please guide your child to place their reading folder in the plastic box on the parent information table every morning.  It is preferable that they do this themselves.
History
This term we will be looking at the 'Olden Days'.  If you have any items that are 'vintage' and would be interesting for the children to view and talk about then bring them in and we will display them.
Things of interest may include ....  cassette players, VHS videos, old style clothing, old style toys, telephones, clocks, photographs, cameras .... and things we don't see much anymore .... handkerchiefs, hair rollers, etc.
At the end of term we will have an 'Olden Days' dress up and activity day so you may like to start thinking about clothing for that day.
Uniforms
Please check to see that your child is wearing their own rugby top.  There are a couple missing across the PP cohort and this may mean that someone is not wearing their own.
Water bottles
A reminder that the children still need to bring their water bottles every day even though it is cold and wet.
Absentee Notes
Please complete an absentee note on the day your child returns.  An email or phone call is not sufficient for our formal records.  Chasing absentee notes is time consuming for all staff involved and we would much rather be planning inspiring learning investigations for your children.

Car Park

You may have noticed that there has been a lot of action in the school car parks over the holidays.  They will not be fully functional until Week Three.  This is going to impact the Gathering Time parking significantly.  This would be a good time to car pool and share drop offs... in so doing... reducing the amount of cars needing to park in the mornings.
Mr Torrese is going to position himself at the top of the red brick path at 8.30am and make ensure that children head off towards their classrooms should you need to drop off.  Year 6 children will be recruited to walk little ones to their classroom doors but may not be ready to do this right at 8.30am.

Term Three

Hello to everyone and welcome back for Term 3.  We hope you have had a very relaxing break and enjoyed some quality time with your children.
Following are a few reminders in order to get Term Three off to a smooth start.

  • The pillows went home at the end of last term.  Please bring back a pillow for your child.  A SMALL one.  We can not store large fancy pillows.
  • Please make sure your child's hat has been washed and is in their bag ready to return to school.
  • Please return your child's portfolio.  It should be in the order it was when it went home.
  • Term three is often the worse term for coughs, colds and bugs.  If your child is unwell then please keep them at home in an effort to reduce the spread of germs.
  • It is important that your child can hear well at school.  If you are concerned that your child is not hearing well then please have a GP check their ears.  We have had quite a few cases of 'Glue Ear' this year already.
  • A reminder that Mrs Sorgiovanni will be teaching on Thursday's and Friday's for the next five weeks.  Mrs Birch will be in the office with extra Admin duties.
  • This term your child will receive a 'reading book'.  When they receive reading books will depend on their tested readiness. For this they will require a reading bag.  One like our green classroom note folder can be purchases at local news-agencies. Please ask to have a look  at this folder during week one.  Reading bags must be waterproof and a sensible size.
  • A note about home reading and how to do it will accompany the first readers.
  • The children will receive sets of Sight Words this week.  A note of explanation will accompany these.
  • Please keep us informed about things that are holding your child's interest. We always endeavour to plan activities that draw on children's interests in order to strengthen engagement. This term we will begin by looking at animals.  Insects, Australian and the "Deadly 60".
  • We have a prayer assembly on Friday of Week 4.  You may wish to mark this in your diary.
  • Our news roster will remain the same this term.  The topic for the first two weeks is 'Something I found interesting during the holidays."
  • Please fill in the parent help roster as soon as possible.
Thanking you all for your continued support!
Looking forward to seeing our little people on Monday.

Grandparents Day

I have just realised that with the busyness of the last week of last term I didn't post the Grandparents Day photos.  So here you are...

Thank you to those grandparents who 'shared the love' on the day and spent time with children whose grandies weren't able to attend.  Also to Mrs Sinclair and Jordanna Hall being there.
We tried to get photos of everyone.... I hope we have you covered!
